Crystal Palace edged bottom-placed Southampton 2-1 at Selhurst Park on Sunday, securing their second home win in the Premier League thanks to goals from Eberechi Eze and Trevor Chalobah.
The victory lifted Palace one place in the standings to 15th, while Southampton remained winless under new manager Ivan Juric, suffering a second consecutive defeat following their 1-0 Boxing Day loss to West Ham United.
Southampton had the more energetic start and took the lead in the 14th minute after Kyle Walker-Peters skipped past Daniel Munoz and his cross found Adam Armstrong, who set up Tyler Dibling for a simple tap-in.
Palace pressed hard for an equaliser and made it 1-1 in the 31st minute when Trevor Chalobah headed in from a corner before Eze sealed the three points for the home side with a strike from the edge of the box.

Crystal Palace vs Southampton
It will be a very happy new year in South London as Crystal Palace win their final game of the calendar year for the fourth year in a row, the first time since 1963. They have Chalobah and Eze to thank as they made sure all three points stayed in the capital on a cold Winter afternoon. The game was largely dominated by Palace, but they went behind in the 14th minute, against the run of play. Dibling smashed home from a couple of yards out to give the away team an advantage, after a flick-on by Armstrong. Their lead didn’t last all that long, however, as Palace hit back in the 31st minute. Hughes’ left-footed corner was nodded in at the near post by Chalobah, and after a brief VAR check for a foul - the scoreline was level again. In the second half, Palace came out with intent to win and they got their second goal in the 52nd minute. There was a mess in and around the Southampton area until the ball fell kindly to a waiting Eze. He had no hesitation as he powerfully slammed the ball past Ramsdale’s right to give Palace the lead. It was a nervy ending to the game for the home team, as Southampton continued to come forward but the pressure didn’t pay off in the end. Palace won the game, and they returned to winning ways before the new year. Palace managed to create 1.82 xG from 19 shots, and Southampton drummed up 1.3 xG from seven shots. CHANCE! Munoz fails to win it in the dying minutes! He was played in on the right brilliantly by Sarr, following a good run from Mateta. The right-back tried a similar finish to his goal recently, but Ramsdale saved with ease. It’s still 2-1!
