Minneapolis shooting latest: Federal judge to hear arguments about ICE tactics just days after Alex Pretti killing
Minnesota officials are calling on the Trump administration to reduce the number of federal agents in the area
A federal judge is set to hear arguments Monday about the ongoing immigration crackdown in Minneapolis, just days after Border Patrol agents shot and killed 37-year-old nurse Alex Pretti.
Minnesota, Minneapolis and St. Paul have sued the Department of Homeland Security in response to “Operation Metro Surge,” which the agency launched last month. The lawsuit was filed shortly after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis earlier this month. Now, Pretti’s killing has added even more urgency to the case.
City and state officials are calling on the Trump administration to reduce the number of agents deployed to the area. The Justice Department has labeled the lawsuit “legally frivolous” and asked the judge to deny their request.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has reiterated his administration’s support for ICE and has demanded that Minnesota officials comply with the federal agency’s demands.
In a lengthy post addressed to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey Sunday night, the president ordered state authorities to turn over “all illegal aliens” and partner with federal authorities to further the immigration crackdown.
In a separate interview with The Wall Street Journal, the president said his administration was “looking” and “reviewing” all aspects of the case.
ICE agents face a crisis of confidence following Minneapolis shooting

ICE agents are experiencing a crisis of confidence after a CPB officer shot protestor Alex Pretti to death on Saturday.
Oscar Hagelsieb, 52, spent 25 years as an immigration officer and voted for Donald Trump three times but, now, even he has his doubts.
“You’re not addressing the problem by throwing a 500-pound gorilla into these inner cities,” Hagelsieb told The New York Times. “They’re causing chaos, and unfortunately it’s costing lives.
“There’s only so much they can handle before bad things start to happen.”
More than 20 other federal agents expressed anxiety over Trump’s current immigration policies to the NYT. Some even expressed concerns that the crisis in Minneapolis was eroding trust in the CBP and ICE.
Gil Kerlikowske, who led the Customs and Border Protection agency under Obama, said that most border agents do no have experience policing in cities.
“Morale is in the dumpster,” he told the NYT. “Many of the agents will be very happy to go back to the job they were trained for on the border.”
Karoline Leavitt says Tom Homan will be managing ICE operations

Karoline Leavitt has claimed that Border Czar Tom Homan will be taking over ICE operations in Minnesota.
The White House Press Secretary confirmed the news on X, in a post which also saw her repeating claims of “widespread fraud” in the state.
“Tom Homan will be managing ICE Operations on the ground in Minnesota to continue arresting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens,” Leavitt wrote. “In addition, Tom will coordinate with those leading investigations into the massive, widespread fraud that has resulted in billions of taxpayer dollars being stolen from law-abiding citizens in Minnesota.”
Trump is sending Border Czar Tom Homan to Minnesota

Donald Trump has revealed that Border Czar Tom Homan has been dispatched to Minnesota.
The president made the announcement on Truth Social, in a post which also included a swipe at Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
“I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight,” Trump preened. “He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me.
“Separately, a major investigation is going on with respect to the massive 20 Billion Dollar, Plus, Welfare Fraud that has taken place in Minnesota, and is at least partially responsible for the violent organized protests going on in the streets,” he continued. Additionally, the DOJ and Congress are looking at ‘Congresswoman’ Illhan Omar, who left Somalia with NOTHING, and is now reportedly worth more than 44 Million Dollars.
“Time will tell all. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT.”
Congresswoman Omar has not been charged with or accused of any criminal wrongdoing.
'You are all are being incited into civil war,' says Marjorie Taylor Greene

Marjorie Taylor Greene has defended Alex Pretti, the Minneapolis nurse shot dead at a protest against ICE activities in the city.
“I unapologetically believe in border security and deporting criminal illegal aliens and I support law enforcement,” Greene wrote on X yesterday. “However, I also unapologetically support the 2nd amendment.”
She went on to say that legally carrying a firearm is not the same as brandishing one.
That means Greene is breaking from the Trump administration once again, since DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has maintained that Pretti “brandished” the firearm.
“There is nothing wrong with legally peacefully protesting and videoing,” Greene added, before turning her rant to the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.
She asked readers to imagine President Biden’s administration cracking down on Capitol rioters and allowing one of the rioters to be shot.
“What would have been our reaction? Both sides need to take off their political blinders,” she continued. “You are all being incited into civil war, yet none of it solves any of the real problems that we all face, and tragically people are dying.”
MAGA civil war deepens as leaked audio of Ted Cruz allegedly ranting about Trump emerges

Ted Cruz ranted about Donald Trump’s trade war to Republican donors, according to a new report into the latest feud within the MAGA movement.
Cruz, 55, is widely expected to launch a bid for the White House in 2028.
However, leaked audio tapes from 2025 show him suggesting that the GOP was headed for an electoral “bloodbath” because of Trump’s tariffs.
“Mr. President, if we get to November of [2026] and people's 401(k)s are down 30% and prices are up 10–20% at the supermarket, we're going to go into Election Day, face a bloodbath,” Cruz said, according to Axios. “You're going to lose the House, you're going to lose the Senate, you're going to spend the next two years being impeached every single week.”
“F*** you, Ted,” Trump said in response, according to Cruz.
Cruz also ranted about JD Vance, branding him “Tucker’s protege,” referring to former Fox host Tucker Carlson.
“Tucker created JD. JD is Tucker's protégé, and they are one and the same,” he said.
However, in a statement, a Cruz spokesperson said that the senator was Trump’s “greatest ally in the Senate and battles every day in the trenches to advance his agenda.”
“Those battles include fights over staffers who try to enter the administration despite disagreeing with the president and seeking to undermine his foreign policy,” the spokesperson continued. “Sen. Cruz is proud of those fights, his accomplishments, and his close relationship with the president. These attempts at sowing division are pathetic and getting boring,”
The news comes after Trump’s dramatic feud with former loyalist Marjorie Taylor Greene, with their split being caused by her support for releasing the Epstein files.
What's next for the world in Donald Trump's second year in office?
The first few weeks of 2026 have felt like a lifetime. They follow a year of unprecedented global events, triggered by Donald Trump’s foreign policy, that have rocked the world and the world order.
In less than a month, we have seen the US capture the president of Venezuela, threaten to bomb Iran, and vow to take over Nato partner Greenland, while briefly threatening sanctions on anyone who opposed that.
So what can the world expect as we move into the second year of Trump’s second term in office?

GoFundMe for Alex Pretti's family reaches $1 million

A GoFundMe page set up to raise money for Alex Pretti’s family has surged past $1 million.
The campaign, entitled Alex Pretti is an American Hero, had a target amount of $20,000 and was set up on Saturday.
“This fundraiser is intended to support the loved ones he leaves behind with immediate and ongoing needs,” the campaign details read. “Because details are still unfolding, and to ensure the money goes to the right person, funds will not be distributed until we can verify next-of-kin and identify the appropriate family representative to manage anything raised.
“If, for any reason, the funds cannot be transferred to Alex’s family, we will direct the total amount to the Immigrant Defense Project, a nonprofit that provides litigation, advocacy, and community-defense resources to help immigrants defend their rights and fight deportation,” the page continues.
Watch: Minneapolis Police Chief says residents have had enough after Alex Pretti shooting
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara says that residents have “had enough” after the shooting of Alex Pretti by CBP agents.
"This is an individual that was a city resident,” he added during a Face the Nation interview on CNN. “It appears that he was present exercising his First Amendment rights to record law enforcement activity and also exercising his Second Amendment rights to lawfully be armed in a public space in the city.
"So I think very obviously, there are serious questions that are being raised."
New York Governor calls for Kristi Noem to resign over Minneapolis shooting
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul says that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has “forfeited her right to lead.”
In a fiery press conference, Hochul called on Noem to resign after the DHS Secretary alleged that Alex Pritti was shot dead because he “brandished” a weapon.
Although a weapon was found in his possession, officials have disputed Noem’s claim that Pritti had “brandished” it.

The NRA has called on Americans to not be fooled by fake social media posts
A viral post, alleged to have been written by Donald Trump, is fake, according to the NRA.
The bizarre Truth Social post saw a social media user, purporting to be Trump, defending CPB agents for killing Alex Pretti.
“HE HAD A GUN, ONLY CRIMINALS CARRY GUNS ON OUR STREETS, WE NEED LAW AND ORDER,” the fake post read. “Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
The official National Rifle Association account has urged people not to “fall” for the post.
“FAKE NEWS ALERT: The latest alleged @realDonaldTrump Truth Social post circulating out there is not real,” the NRA wrote in a post. “As bad actors among us attempt to further the divide our country, it is now more important than ever to be vigilant against AI-generated content meant to mislead Americans. Don’t fall for it.”
