Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace leave Wolverhampton with three points and provisionally find themselves inside the top four of the Premier League! The game itself started slowly, but after Mateta missed a huge chance just after the 15-minute mark, the game kicked into life. Mateta couldn’t sort his feet out to put away a one-on-one opportunity that would define the game for him personally. Henderson made a great save from a deflected free-kick from Joao Gomes, but that was that for the main action in the first half. In the second, Palace started really slowly, but then, out of seemingly nowhere, they took the lead. A well-worked corner routine was scuppered, but the ball fell to Munoz inside the box, who lashed a left-footed shot home into the roof of an unguarded net to make it 1-0. Just six minutes later, Pino scored a goal of the month contender to make it 2-0 to the away side. Wharton set him the ball, before Pino steadied himself and unleashed a curling rocket into the top right corner of Johnstone’s net via the crossbar. That gave Palace a cushion to defend, and they did just that. They walk away with a solid win, despite some struggles in the game, and they were deserving winners on the day. Wolves created 1.76 xG in total, made up of two big chances that they missed. Palace outperformed their 1.35 xG, with Mateta’s chance in the first half contributing a large chunk towards it. Palace win 2-0 and wrap up another game in their busy schedule. Thank you for joining this live text commentary. Goodbye!
