Transfer news live: Manchester City sign Kyle Walker, Chelsea close on second summer signing, Liverpool bid rejected

Keep up with the latest from the crazy world of the summer transfer window

Premier League transfer round-up: Kyle Walker set for Man City move

The transfer window is open so, naturally, every man and his dog has been linked to Manchester United while champions Chelsea have had to watch their rivals strengthen their arsenals without restocking theirs.

The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Alvaro Morata, Andrea Belotti, and Alexis Sanchez have all been linked with moves in what promises to be another summer of bumper signings.

Rather impressively, a number of clubs have already set about their business early. Manchester City were the summer’s early pace setters, having already signed both Bernardo Silva and Ederson, but rivals United have caught them up landing the summer's biggest deal so far, Romelu Lukaku from Everton. The Toffees meanwhile Everton have signed six new faces including United's Wayne Rooney.

Chelsea finally got their hands on Antonio Rudiger while Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal. Liverpool's pursuit of Naby Keita is beginning to annoy Leipzig with lots of talk but little action.

We will have all the latest transfer news and reports throughout the day right here so don't touch that dial.

When finishing the usual forensic analysis of his squad for summer transfer planning, Jose Mourinho last season decided he wanted to enhance five areas of the Manchester United team, but there were two specific positions he saw as higher priority than the rest.

One was obviously a goalscorer, and that has now been sorted with the signing of Romelu Lukaku - amid some sensation. The other is beginning to generate the same amount of commotion as that search given the situation of the targets, and is by many accounts even more important to Mourinho, the task he is most concerned with.

That is the pursuit of a defensive midfielder, a fulcrum, and is about so much more for the Portuguese than just necessarily filling a position in his team. It is about filling one of his real key positions, from where so much of the manager’s idea of football emanates.

Chelsea have agreed a deal worth just under £40m for Monacomidfielder Tiemoué Bakayoko, as a protracted transfer looks set to finally end for the Premier League champions to make their third signing of the close season so far.

The 22-year-old will now undergo a full medical on Friday, with the move having previously been partly delayed by the French international having to go through routine keyhole surgery on his knee at the end of Monaco’s Ligue 1 title win.

That is not expected to cause any further issues, although Bakayoko is unlikely to be able to start for Chelsea until September.

Gylfi Sigurdsson appears set to join Everton after Swansea left him out of their pre-season trip to the United States.

The Toffees are understood to have bid just over £40m for the Iceland midfielder, an offer that has not yet been accepted but is likely to form the core of an agreement between the clubs.

Sigurdsson has also been a target for Leicester City but was always more keen on a switch to Goodison Park than the King Power Stadium.

LA Galaxy have played down talk they are about to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Swede has long been linked with a move to the MLS side, with a £6million-a-year deal reported to be on the table for the injured striker following his exit from Manchester United.

While admitting his side are on the lookout for a "world-class" signing head coach Curt Onalfo would not confirm whether Ibrahimovic was in their crosshairs.

Today's A Bola in Portugal state that Benfica's president has been in touch with Renato Sanches over a loan return to the club this summer.

The Portuguese midfielder joined Bayern Munich last summer from retaining Primeira Liga champions Benfica for £27.5m, but struggled to make an impact in his first season in Germany, which has consequently seen a drop in his performance levels.

Bayern Munich are willing to let the 19-year-old leave on loan, which CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed a couple of days ago.

The report does also state that clubs with greater financial power than Benfica have enquired about Sanches.

Reports in Italy are linking a couple of Premier League midfielders to clubs in the country.

Arsenal's Jack Wilshere is reportedly interesting Sampdoria, and the club could make an offer of around £9m to the North London club.

The 25-year-old was subject of late interest from Roma in last summer's window, but Wilshere chose to move on loan to the other interested party, Bournemouth.

Lazio meanwhile are said to have begun discussions over a £5m move for Liverpool's Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva.

Crystal Palace have agreed a deal to sign Bruno Martins Indi from Porto, according to reports.

The Dutchman, who spent last season on loan at Stoke City, was expected to join the Potters on a permanent deal but it appears the Eagles have won the race for the 25-year-old.

MARCA have insisted over the last few days that Real Madrid right-back Danilo is a major target for Antonio Conte at Chelsea.

His potential replacement at the Champions League holders could come from Paris, with PSG's Belgian defender Thomas Meunier.

The 25-year-old joined PSG from Club Brugge last summer, and is said to be to manager Zinedine Zidane's liking, with the Frenchman apparently being left very impressed by the right-back's performance in the French side's 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League last season.

The Spanish publication also believe that Dani Alves' move to PSG could free up Meunier to move to the Spanish capital, but reports over the last few days have suggested that his fellow right-back in the French capital, Serge Aurier, will be the full-back to be shown the door after a tumultuous time at PSG off the pitch.
