PSG vs Tottenham live: Spurs suffer penalties heartbreak after blowing two-goal lead in Super Cup
PSG 2-2 Tottenham (PSG win 4-3 on penalties): Spurs blow two-goal lead to lose Super Cup on spot-kicks
Tottenham blew a two-goal lead before suffering heartbreak on penalties as Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain fought back to win the Uefa Super Cup.
PSG only returned for pre-season a week ago and have shown signs of rust, barely able to threaten Guglielmo Vicario’s goal despite boasting much of the ball in the first half. Europa League winners Spurs, meanwhile, threatened the most and snatched a deserving lead as half-time neared, with Micky van de Ven firing in the rebound after new PSG keeper Lucas Chevalier saved Joao Palhinha’s effort onto the bar.
It could’ve been two before the break as Mohammed Kudus nodded onto the post, but Crisitan Romero made no mistake just minutes after the restart, heading home to announce himself as the club’s new captain.
Spurs maintained their two-goal cushion Kang-in Lee’s 85th-minute strike instilled late hope into PSG, before Goncalo Ramos’ stoppage time equaliser forced penalties. And after Van de Ven and Mathys Tel missed from the spot, Nuno Mendes smashed into the roof of the net to seal victory for the Parisians and deny new boss Thomas Frank an immediate piece of silverware.

Next up for Spurs
Spurs won’t have long to pick themselves up as they face Burnley in their Premier League opener on Saturday.
Kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be at 3pm, and if they perform anything like they did tonight, the Clarets will have a real test on their hands in their first match back in the top-flight.

PSG bounce back from Club World Cup failure
PSG already let a trophy slip to London opposition this summer. They weren’t going to do it again.

Thomas Frank falls at challenge of serial winner Luis Enrique

Gianluigi Donnarumma who?
Lucas Chevalier certainly redeemed himself for letting Cristian Romero’s header through too easily.
The new PSG stopper is the shootout hero, perhaps vindicating Luis Enrique for exiling last season’s top performer Gianluigi Donnarumma from the squad.
Paris’ loss could be Manchester’s gain...

'We'll be flying out on Saturday'
“It’s a short turnaround and there’ll be a bit of disappointment for the next 24 hours,” Frank told TNT Sports.
“Then when I wake up tomorrow, we’ll be ready tomorrow afternoon, then more ready on Friday. We’ll make sure we’re flying out on Saturday.”

Thomas Frank reiterates desire for signings but stays tight-lipped on specifics
“I’d like to strengthen the squad, no doubt about that,” Frank told TNT Sports. “We will work very hard to do that. In general I’m happy with the squad but we would like to make the squad stronger before the window closes.”
'We showed we can play against any team in the world'
“In one game we showed that we can play against any team in the world,” Frank told TNT Sports. “I’m not in doubt that we can do that. That’s a positive I’ll take away from this.”
Thomas Frank emphasises importance of set plays
“It’s key,” Frank told TNT Sports. “For any team it should be a weapon in my opinion. We definitely will focus on it because we think it’s a key area.”
Tottenham scored both their goals from deep free-kicks tonight.
Thomas Frank only taking the positives
“We played a very good game against one of the best team in the world, maybe the best and we had them exactly where we wanted for 80-something minutes until the 2-1 goal, which shifted a bit of momentum,” Frank told TNT Sports.
“So much positives, so proud of the team, the fans, the players. There’s a lot to be happy with, but it’s a flip of a coin in a penalty shootout.”
