Follow live coverage as Newcastle United face Nottingham Forest today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Liverpool look to fend off competition from Arsenal, Manchester City and more.

The race for the Champions League places should also be a compelling battle, with a fifth place possible for English teams. Manchester United’s latest rebuild under Ruben Amorim sets expectations high once more after a dismal season last time out.

Meanwhile, it’s Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Newcastle United vs Nottingham Forest

Newcastle secure their second home win of the season with a 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest. The Magpies were initially made to work for the three points, having headed into the break with the score level, but the hosts stepped up another level in the second half to run out deserved winners. Guimaraes opened the scoring with a delightful right-footed shot from range on 58 minutes after receiving the ball from Burn in the Forest half. The goal looked to have knocked the stuffing out of the visitors, who had been competitive across the opening 45 minutes, but struggled to establish an attacking outlet after the break. Newcastle then doubled their lead from the penalty spot after their former midfielder Anderson surrendered possession in his own penalty area before mistiming his challenge on Guimaraes with eight minutes of normal time remaining. Striker Woltemade stepped up and duly added their second with a wonderful penalty in the top left corner, maintaining his run of scoring in every Newcastle home game. The Magpies finished with a whopping 3.05 xG to their name, while Forest recorded just 0.27. Newcastle now look to an away meeting with Brighton after the international break, while Forest host Chelsea at the City Ground. That’s all for this one, thanks for joining!

2-0 NEWCASTLE!! Woltemade scores in his third successive match at St James' Park and surely secures the points for Newcastle from the spot. It's a phenomenal penalty from the German, who nestles the ball into the top left-hand corner with his right foot.

NEWCASTLE PENALTY! Anderson is caught out by Guimaraes in his own penalty area after a needless pass by Milenkovic. The former Newcastle midfielder then mistimes his challenge and hacks his former teammate to the ground. It's a simple decision for the referee.
