Follow live coverage as Manchester City face Liverpool today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Liverpool look to fend off competition from Arsenal, Manchester City and more.

The race for the Champions League places should also be a compelling battle, with a fifth place possible for English teams. Manchester United’s latest rebuild under Ruben Amorim sets expectations high once more after a dismal season last time out.

Meanwhile, it’s Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

SAVED!! Cherki's cross-field pass is met by Haaland, who again beats Konate to free up Doku on the left. The Belgian darts to the byline and fires the ball back inside, but it's too close to Mamardashvili and the Liverpool goalkeeper collects!

There's the final whistle, as Manchester City produce a sensational display to thump Premier League champions Liverpool 3-0 at the Etihad! After Haaland and Nico's first-half goals had put City in control either side of Van Dijk's controversially-disallowed header, the Blues doubled down on their dominance in the second period. Pep Guardiola's side produced 1.60 xG as Doku again went close, before the brilliant Belgian capped off a man-of-the-match performance with a curling strike into the far corner to make it 3-0. Further chances followed for O'Reilly and Foden, but the game had long since been won for the home side as Man City snuffed out any chance of a Liverpool comeback. The visitors managed 0.71 xG at the other end through Gakpo, Szoboszlai and Salah, but they were kept at arm's length throughout and lose their fifth game in sixth to remain eighth in the Premier League table. At the summit, however, Arsenal's lead is cut to four points by this resurgent Manchester City side, who leapfrog Chelsea into second place after the clearest indication yet that they are well and truly title contenders.
