Brighton & Hove Albion vs Newcastle United
The full-time whistle blows at the Amex Stadium as Brighton defeat Newcastle United 2-1. After a bright start from the Magpies, it was the hosts who took the lead after Rutter's through ball allowed Welbeck to chip Pope for Brighton's opener. The Seagulls started the second half strongly and were unfortunate not to extend their lead after Ayari saw his close-range effort fly whiskers past the right-hand post. The Magpies began to apply pressure on the Brighton goal and were eventually rewarded through Woltemade's exquisite backheel into the bottom-left corner of the net. Eddie Howe's side searched for a second, but it was Brighton who managed to score the winner after Welbeck thumped in an 18-yard effort into the bottom-left corner of the goal. The result means Brighton move up to ninth in the Premier League table with 12 points, with Newcastle dropping to 12th. The hosts created plenty of chances in front of goal which was reflected through an xG of 1.03. Meanwhile, the visitors generated a slightly higher xG of 1.39. Brighton will now turn their attention to Manchester United in the Premier League next week, while Eddie Howe's side host Benfica in matchday three of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
