Brighton & Hove Albion vs Brentford LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction

Follow all the action from American Express Stadium

Follow live coverage as Brighton & Hove Albion face Brentford today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Liverpool look to fend off competition from Arsenal, Manchester City and more.

The race for the Champions League places should also be a compelling battle, with a fifth place possible for English teams. Manchester United’s latest rebuild under Ruben Amorim sets expectations high once more after a dismal season last time out.

Meanwhile, it’s Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Henderson floats an early Brentford free-kick into the box and Collins meets it at the far post with a header back across the face of goal. Verbruggen jumps off his line to punch the ball clear, but it falls for Yarmoliuk and the midfielder skews an awkward volley well wide from the edge of the box.

Fabian Hurzeler has dropped Brighton captain Lewis Dunk to the bench following their 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace, with Olivier Boscagli brought into central defence in the only change to the Seagulls’ starting side; a side which is still without injured talisman Kaoru Mitoma out wide.

A pair of clever passes from Ayari and Baleba free up room for Rutter to potentially open Brentford up on the right-hand side, but he's crowded out by Van den Berg and Schade, and the latter gets back in cover to turn possession over.

It's all over at the Amex Stadium, as Brighton complete a second-half turnaround and keep an injury-time penalty at bay to see out a 2-1 win over Brentford! 1-0 down from the first half, the hosts had it all to do in the second and piled on the pressure straight away, registering 1.23 xG as Ayari, Welbeck and Minteh all spurned decent chances to equalise. Minteh would be heavily involved just minutes later though, crossing into the box for Welbeck to find the bottom corner and make it 1-1 with a perfectly-timed finish. The Seagulls' tails were well and truly up and they completed their comeback 13 minutes later when Minteh was again picked out on the right-hand side. His driving run in-field culminated in a shot which was blocked by the Bees' defence, but the substitute Hinshelwood was on hand to volley home the rebound and put Brighton in front for the first time. Lewis-Potter, Thiago and Kayode all tested Verbruggen at the other end as Brentford produced 1.91 xG in their quest to get back into the game, but their best opportunity would come in injury time, when De Cuyper was penalised for a pull on Schade's shirt in the box. Thiago stepped up having already scored from the penalty spot, but this time he was denied by Verbruggen right at the death as Brighton clung on to seal a 2-1 win which lifts them up to fifth in the Premier League table. They leapfrog no less than six teams with a crucial home victory, while Brentford still sit in twelfth following a fifth defeat from six games on the road this season.

VERBRUGGEN SAVES!!!! What a stop from Brighton's number one!! Thiago steps up again from 12 yards and looks to find the bottom-left corner once more, but Verbruggen guesses right, dives right, and saves with his legs before regathering the ball to keep the scores at 2-1!

OVER!!! Brentford throw numbers forward with desperation in the hope of one last attack, and after Schade's knock-down is met by Kayode, he blazes over the crossbar from the edge of the box, and a goal-kick is given despite an apparent deflection!
