THE COVERAGE of the closure of the Modern Review by the quality press has been extraordinary ("Two's company, but three's a photo call", 4 June).

Until its termination, I would be prepared to wager that few readers knew what the Modern Review was and even fewer cared. Yet when we are being told of the increasing cost of newsprint and the resultant pressure on space, the qualities seem prepared to devote inordinate amounts of space to the demise of this organ. In a more enlightened age, surely a feud between two journalists would have remained where it belongs, in the diary columns.

Surely that valuable newsprint could have been devoted to more interesting and relevant news stories?
