Sir: Regarding Rory Stuart's letter (19 December), legitimate descendants of James II have long since died out. George I was no intruder, but great-grandson of James I of England and grandson of the Stuart Elizabeth of Bohemia. Among very many royal forebears, Her Majesty is descended from the ancient kings of England, Scotland and Ireland, and the sovereign princes of Wales: the Queen Mother's immediate ancestors were all British.
