Sir: In recent years I decided to make smallish contributions to a much wider number of charities, having previously supported a few on a more regular basis. I have been amazed how this has led to a profusion of repetitive requests for further donations via my letter box. I cannot be alone in my reluctance to give under such persistent pestering.
