Letter: Press regulation: a Bill killed, tragic revelations, the global village, sellers of sleaze

Sir: Sir David Calcutt has almost got it right. We do need a complaints tribunal to protect the public from false reporting and to ensure that adequate apologies are delivered to those wronged. The tribunal should be chaired by newspaper editors in rotation and the lay assessors should be people of relevant experience such as Judith Ward and Gerry Conlon. The tribunal's responsibility should be to oversee the judiciary.

Yours faithfully,

SEAN GOODSIR-CULLEN
