Sir: The odds against being dealt a perfect hand in bridge are much less than stated in your report 'Player dealt perfect hand in spades' (12 May).

The figures that you quoted - 2,235,197,406,895,366,368,301,559,

999 to 1 - are the odds against all four players being dealt a perfect hand.

The odds against one player receiving such a hand are only 158,

753,389,899 to 1.

Yours in all probability,

DARREN PULLMAN
