Sir: Good luck to the World No-Golf Day and the Global Network for Anti- Golf Course Action ('When golf is more bane than game', 22 April).

Last August I was in Sarawak and went to visit the Mulu National Park to see the wonderful limestone caves and rock formations. As I went up- river my intense pleasure in the trip was almost destroyed. I asked the guide about some construction work that was going on and was told that a Japanese hotel was being built; on the other side of the river the jungle was to be cut down for a golf course. This was at some distance from the nearest town and so the small airstrip was to be enlarged to bring in the Japanese golfers.

Yours faithfully,

JUDITH ROUTH
