Letter: England's eagles and Britain's golfers

Sir: Is England becoming a non-word; or even worse, a non-country? I read in the golfing columns, and hear on the radio, of how Messrs Lyle and Woosnam, both of whom were, I believe, born in Shropshire, are styled Scots and Welsh; whereas Nick Faldo, who was certainly born in neither Wales nor Scotland, is styled British. Why not English, for heaven's sake?

Yours etc,

ROGER LEWIS
