Suits you?

The President of the Royal Academy is a sculptor. The secretary of the Royal Academy is an economist. A clash was inevitable. It seems that Professor Phillip King, the president, won the clash as the secretary, David Gordon, resigned, and interviews are about to be held to find his replacement.

One of Mr Gordon's beefs was his job title. It was "secretary" of the Royal Academy rather than "director". Having cleared a £1.6m deficit, Mr Gordon felt he was more director than secretary. Professor King does not agree. He says there is "no battle of the suits versus the T-shirts", but insists that the new secretary will "fill a general management role accountable to president and council". Candidates appearing before Professor King would be advised to add that they think director a pompous title. Secretary has a much more artistic ring. And would Mr King mind if they wore a T-shirt occasionally?
