Mel Giedroyc has backed The Independent's Christmas campaign with a special message on how readers can help Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) provide ventilators for critically ill children.

In the video the 47-year-old presenter, who hosts The Great British Bake Off alongside Sue Perkins, explains how important the availability of ventilators is at the hospital.

“Around 9 in every 10 patients on Great Ormond Street’s critical care wards are unable to breathe on their own. And they require a ventilator to provide life-sustaining oxygen,“ Giedroyc said. ”Your donation to the Give to GOSH appeal could contribute to this essential equipment.”

With her Christmas message Giedroyc joins a list of famous faces who have endorsed the campaign as part of our series, including Rupert Everett, Rob Brydon and Gillian Anderson.

David Beckham, Johnny Depp and Elton John have also backed the appeal.
