Ryanair charges sick traveller for drink and food

A passenger suffering a cardiac arrest on board a Ryanair flight was treated by cabin crew with a sandwich and a soft drink, which they later charged him for.

The incident took place last Sunday on a flight from England to Sweden, when 63-year-old Per-Erik Jonsson lost consciousness.

Mr Jonsson's stepdaughter Billie Appleton, a nurse, told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet: "They said he had low blood pressure and gave him a sandwich and a soda. And they made sure he paid for it."

Ryanair defended the actions of its crew, saying it had offered to divert the flight and to have an ambulance on stand-by. "However, the passenger's companion, who identified herself as a nurse, declined this offer."
