EasyJet has announced that it will fly to eight locations from its new location at London Southend Airport.

The budget airline confirmed July 26, exactly a year ahead of the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, that tickets are now available to and from Southend for flights departing when the services are scheduled to begin in April 2012.

Flights will include Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Faro in Portugal, Alicante, Barcelona, Ibiza, Malaga and Mallorca in Spain and Belfast in Northern Ireland.

Up to 800,000 passengers a year are expected to pass through the new Southend Airport every year when services begin, offering travelers another arrival point for next summer's Olympic Games, much of which will be held in the east of London.

Although the airport will be the furthest away of the six airports serving the British capital, easyJet said this week that it believes the new links to places such as Amsterdam, Belfast and Barcelona will "attract a high number of inbound business and leisure passengers to London next summer."

By the time the flights begin, passengers will have access to a new high-speed rail link to Stratford and London Liverpool Street, with up to eight trains departing every hour to cover the 50 km or so to the capital itself.
