JEREMY BATES led the British charge into the semi-finals of the Direct Line Insurance tournament at Beckenham yesterday.
Bates, the British No 1, overcame South Africa's Grant Stafford 6-4, 6-1 and is likely to face the world No 3 Stefan Edberg on Saturday.
With Monique Javer reaching the last four of the women's event earlier in the day, beating Australia's No 11 seed Nicole Pratt 6-3, 7-6, British players are making a two-pronged assault on the pre-Wimbledon tournament.
