Sir: Joe Lovejoy's assertion that Eric Cantona was the 'decisive influence' when Leeds won the championship (Independent, 25 April) is a ludicrous piece of Leeds bashing. Rightly or wrongly, Cantona was a peripheral figure during Leeds' run- in. To give him the credit is a slur on the players who really were influential, notably McAllister, Lukic, Speed and Chapman (20 goals that season to Cantona's three).
