Reports from India are claiming that Baichung Bhutia, the Indian international midfielder who trained with Aston Villa last season, has signed for Fulham, subject to his work permit being granted.

Carlton Palmer was fined pounds 3,500 and warned about his future conduct at a Football Association disciplinary hearing yesterday. The Nottingham Forest midfielder was charged with misconduct after gesturing to Leeds fans following his sending-off during his side's defeat at Elland Road in April.

Birmingham City's attempt to sign the England B full-back Wayne Quinn from Sheffield United in exchange for Steve Robinson and Simon Charlton collapsed yesterday. Trevor Francis, the Birmingham manager, has signed the midfielders Jacques Williams, 18, and Tresor Luntala, 17, from Bordeaux and Rennes respectively under the Bosman ruling.

The former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday striker Nigel Jemson, 29, has reached a settlement to end his current contract at Bury and is searching for a new club.
