NIGEL MANSELL is due to have an operation to remove a bone from his foot in December. He will be unable to drive for three or four weeks before beginning Indycar testing in the new year.

DAMON HILL, of Britain, the official Williams test driver, was the fastest after three days of tyre testing at the Estoril circuit, Portugal, yesterday. His time of 1min 14.19sec was 0.61sec faster than the new Williams driver, three-times world champion Alain Prost, of France. Michael Schumacher, of Germany, driving a Benetton, was third fastest ahead of Britain's Mark Blundell, the official McLaren test driver.
