IAN ATKINS, Birmingham City's first- team coach and a former Colchester United manager, and Steve Harrison, the former England coach, have been interviewed for the managerial vacancy at Third Division Gillingham.

JOHN BECK, the unsettled manager of Cambridge United, will not be taking over at Preston North End. Beck watched the Deepdale club's 2-0 home win over Reading on Tuesday, after which he told his chairman at Cambridge, Reg Smart, that he was staying at the Abbey Stadium for the time being.
