Wonderhorse Cigar failed to break the American record for the consecutive number of victories this century when he was beaten in the Grade One Pacific Classic in Del Mar, California.

Bill Mott's charge, who had earlier drawn level with Citation's sequence of 16 wins, found this one challenge too far as Dare And Go took the race.
