As the the formal bidding process for taking over the Olympic Stadium opens today, it seems increasingly likely that it will remain a multi-sports venue. West Ham United, in a joint bid with Newham Council, and AEG, the American entertainment group that runs the O2, are the front-runners, with the Olympic Park Legacy Company set to make its decision by April.

The 80,000 capacity will be reduced post-Games, but the running track will almost certainly remain, although that is not believed to be a deal-breaker for West Ham.
