PETER RICHARDSON, Britain's light-welterweight, put on one of the most spectacular shows so far in the boxing to beat the American medal hope Vernon Forrest.

The pair staged three rounds of non-stop slugging action, with punches and counter- punches flying in each direction. Richardson, who looked to be feeling the pace in the third round, took two standing counts, but still emerged the

14-8 winner.

The American camp said that Forrest had been suffering from diarrhoea, but he dismissed the excuse. 'I felt good this morning,' he said.
