McNeeley the first to face Tyson

Mike Tyson's first fight since his realease from prison is likely to be against Boston's Peter McNeeley in Las Vegas on 19 August, according to reports in America. If the fight goes ahead, Tyson will be fighting for the first time in four years.

Tyson's promoter, Don King, is thought to be attempting to finalise details for the bout. McNeeley's manager, Vinny Vecchioni, said he believed the fight will happen, but that no date had been set.

McNeeley, who needed just six seconds to knock out Frankie Hines last Saturday, has long been mentioned as an opponent for Tyson. He has a 36- 1 record as a professional, including 30 knock-outs, but has faced few fighters of any stature.

Tyson, who unified the world heavyweight championship before losing his titles to Buster Douglas, last fought in June 1991, when he outpointed "Razor" Ruddock.

That bout was a rematch - in the first fight Tyson won by stopping Ruddock in the seventh round.

Tyson today returns to the boxing scene as a television commentator for a promotion in Landover, Maryland.

Tyson, who signed a contract with the Showtime cable network following his release from prison, will offer commentary from ringside on the fight card, which features an International Boxing Federation junior middleweight fight and a rematch for the vacant IBF middleweight title.

In addition to his work as a commentator, Tyson has some legal dates in front of him. A trial date of 12 June has been set in Newark, New Jersey, for a civil suit for sexual abuse filed before his conviction for rape.
