The father of Steffi Graf will break his silence today over his family's tax affairs, the prosecutor's office said yesterday.

Peter Graf has been in jail since August on suspicion of evading tax on millions of marks earned by the joint women's world No 1 player. Steffi Graf is also being investigated but authorities have so far seen no need to arrest her.

A magazine, News Weekly Focus, reported that Graf was ready to accept full responsibility for the tax evasion case to shield his daughter from taking any blame and could be released on bail by Christmas.

The magazine said Peter Graf would also pledge to reveal full details of his daughter's earnings and what had been done with the money.

In return, he hoped that the investigation against his daughter would be dropped, and that he would be released from jail where he is being kept to prevent him leaving the country.
