Suez, one of Godolphin's hope for the 1,000 Guineas, is injured and will miss the race at Newmarket on Sunday week. The filly had pleased connections when she worked at Nad Al Sheba racecourse on Tuesday and had been well backed for the Classic this week. However, she sustained an ankle injury during her seven-furlong gallop with Fen Shui at the Dubai track.

Godolphin's racing manager, Simon Crisford, said: "It is a great shame. She is lame on her right fore and X-rays have revealed a small chip, which will require arthroscopic surgery."

Both Suez and Fen Shui were being considered by Godolphin for the Guineas, in which they are also due to run Satin Kiss.
