Racing: Fox out to prove innocence to Club

Sean Fox's controversial ride on Ice Saint at Fontwell in March comes under Jockey Club scrutiny again today when the rider's appeal against a 21-day ban is heard. Fox will appear before the disciplinary panel in an attempt to overturn the local stewards' view that he intentionally stepped off the horse after jumping the ninth fence in a chase.

The panel will consider evidence produced subsequently by Jockey Club security department investigations. On the day of the race, the gelding opened at 2-1 on-course before being returned at twice those odds, having also drifted on betting exchanges. At least one other rider has been interviewed by officials in connection with the race.

Toby Balding's appeal has failed to overturn the Ebor Handicap result, in which Luca Cumani's winner, Mephisto, veered towards his second, Gold Ring.
