Transfer Talk: Siem de Jong to Newcastle; Peter Odemwingie to QPR; Mohamed Diame to Arsenal
The Independent's Martin Hardy analyses today's January transfer window stories and separates the reality from the rumour

Player: Siem de Jong
Club: Ajax
Possible move to: Newcastle
Time left on deal: Two years
The story: Newcastle desperately need to add some firepower to their squad to save their season. De Jong can play as a striker or deeper, offering versatility and is available for around £9million.
Chance of moving: Three stars
Player: Peter Odemwingie
Club: West Brom
Possible move to: QPR
Time left on deal: 18 months
The story: Harry Redknapp is reshaping his squad to try and stay in the Premier League and he knows he needs goalscorers. Rangers have already had a £2million bid turned down and clearly have the money to return with an improved offer.
Chance of moving: Four stars
Player: Loic Remy
Club: Marseille
Possible move to: QPR
Time left on deal: Two-and-a-half years
The story: Harry Redknapp flew to France 10 days ago armed with a salary package for Remy to blow any Premier League rivals out of the water, and it appears to have worked. Newcastle thought they had Remy at the weekend by an £80,000-a-week contract is out of their budget and the forward will have a medical today.
Chance of moving: Four stars
Player: Mohamed Diame
Club: West Ham
Possible move to: Arsenal
Time left on deal: Two-and-a-half years
The story: Diame has a release clause at just £3.5million following his move from Wigan in the summer. West Ham want a new clause, Arsenal want a powerful midfielder and Diame has certainly looked that.
Chance of moving: Three stars
Player: Wilfried Zaha
Club: Crystal Palace
Possible move to: Arsenal
Time left on deal: Four-and-a-half years
The story: Manchester United are confident they sit in pole position for the 20-year-old, who has become one of the most coveted players during the January transfer window. Arsenal would like to land Zaha but it's an outsider's bet.
Chance of moving: Two stars
