Mohamed Elneny is set for a medical with Arsenal on Tuesday, ahead of signing for the club on Wednesday, it has been reported.

The Daily Mail have reported that the Basel midfielder will undergo the medical in Paris before the £7.4m deal is agreed.

The report adds that the 23-year-old Egyptian must wait for clearance on a visa before the deal is completed.

He is set to sign a four-and-a-half year deal with the Gunners.

Elneny plays in central midfield. A position where players are much needed to Arsene Wenger at the moment, with Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere all currently sidelined.

It has been widely reported that Wenger sees Elneny as a long-term part of the squad, and not just a stop-gap to cover the mounting injuries.

At full international level for Egypt, he has won 39 caps.

He is eligible to play in the Champions League after Basel failed to qualify for this season's group stage.
