Title talk is the only thing that interests Smith

Rangers are still on course for four trophies this season but their manager, Walter Smith, says winning the SPL title for the first time since 2005 remains the club's priority. "We started the season with the Scottish title our main objective and that's still the case," he said.

Nacho Novo's late goal against Panathinaikos in the Uefa Cup on Thursday put his side into the last 16, where they will face Werder Bremen. Rangers will contest the CIS Cup final, on 16 March, against Dundee United and have a fifth-round Scottish Cup replay against Hibernian, with a quarter-final place at stake.

In the SPL, Smith's side start the weekend four points clear of Celtic with 14 games to play, three of them Old Firm derbies, and none of those to be played before the end of March at the earliest.

Celtic, who lost 3-2 against Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek, travel to St Mirren tomorrow. Andreas Hinkel and Scott Brown will return after missing the Barça game through being cup-tied and suspended respectively.

Rangers host ailing Gretna, also tomorrow. Gretna's owner, Brooks Mileson, has just been released from hospital but fears persist that the club's financial future is uncertain.

They will not find Smith in charitable mood, however. "We just have to keep concentrating on what we have been doing because it is obviously working for us," Smith said. "Every time they go out on the pitch they are giving their all. We are a team very much together at the moment."
