Roy Keane autobiography: I profited from the Glazer takeover of Manchester United

Roy Keane has revealed that he earned "a few bob" when the Glazer family controversially took over Manchester United in 2005.

In his autobiography The Second Half the former captain says he had shares in the club that were boosted when the Americans came in.

"From the players’ point of view, it didn’t bother us too much. I had a few shares in the club as part of my contract. So the Glazers coming in was worth a few bob to me."

Malcolm Glazer's controversial takeover led to mass fan protests at Old Trafford, with a huge number of fans wearing green and gold scarves to represent their opposition to the move, while a fan group set up semi-professional FC United in protest.

A huge amount of funds have been taken out of the club over the nine-year period to pay debts owed by the American family.
