Liverpool banner: Fans call for Brendan Rodgers to be sacked with 'Rodgers Out Rafa In' flown over Anfield during match with QPR

As if dealing with Steven Gerrard’s impending exit wasn’t bad enough, Brendan Rodgers is now being attacked from the skies – and Rafael Benitez.

Liverpool scored an early goal to take the lead against Queens Park Rangers thanks to Philippe Coutinho, but just minutes later the Reds’ manager was facing calls for his sacking from above.

No, that doesn’t mean the Liverpool hierarchy, but the dreaded return of the overhead banner.

A plane appeared above Anfield flying a banner that read: “RODGERS OUT RAFA IN” with calls from fans for the former Liverpool manager beginning to grow louder.

Rodgers is under pressure at Liverpool as they look on course to miss out on the top four having spent over £100m last summer.

He was defended by former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher though, who said before the incident that any banner above the ground is an “embarrassment”.

“About to leave for Anfield, hope this Rodgers banner supposedly flying over the ground is called off as it's embarrassing to club & fans,” Carragher said on Twitter.

It is not known who organised to have the banner flown over Anfield.
