How does Jose Mourinho's Manchester United pay-out compare with other high-profile dismissals?
As history shows, being sacked as a top-flight manager has its benefits...
Another dismissal, another eye-watering pay-out for Jose Mourinho.
After repeated failings at Manchester United, the Portuguese was finally given the chop on Tuesday morning to bring his third season at Old Trafford to a premature end.
The 55-year-old now stands to receive a staggering pay-out from United, having only renewed his contract to 2020 earlier this year.
Reports have suggested the former Chelsea and United boss could be handed a remuneration package worth between £15m and £22.5m – but how does this compare to other high-profile Premier League sackings?
Here, we take a look at some of the biggest managerial names to have been given the early sack and how much they received:
Sam Allardyce
‘Big Sam’ has been passed around like a hot potato in the Premier League, but that hasn’t stopped him from picking up almost £15m in pay-out packages during a coaching career that stretches back to 1996.
The former Everton and Bolton man even reportedly brought a villa in Spain with his Newcastle payout, dubbing it ‘Casa St.James’.

Jose Mourinho
The Portuguese is another manager to have been around the block, making millions in the process. From Real Madrid to Chelsea and Manchester United, the Portuguese has made a decent business out of being sacked early.

David Moyes
The Scot’s appointment at Old Trafford was only destined to failure. Tasked with following in the steps of Sir Alex Ferguson, the former Everton boss never stood a chance. He was in charge at the club for just 10 months, the third-shortest managerial stint in United history.
Manchester United

Andre Villas-Boas
The Portuguese has similarly benefited from a quick dismissal, having been sacked midway through his contract at both Chelsea and Tottenham.
Chelsea

Tottenham

Brendan Rodgers
Remember him? The Northern-Irishman took Liverpool within reaching distance of a first Premier League title but that infamous Steven Gerrard slip proved to be the side’s undoing. Nonetheless, after his efforts in the 2013/14 season Rodgers was handed a new four-year contract at Liverpool – only to be sacked the following season.
