Chelsea vs Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp hails Reds for playing 'football like hell'

Jurgen Klopp once described his playing style as ‘heavy metal football’ but he hailed Liverpool’s Friday night win over Chelsea as ‘football like hell’.

Jordan Henderson’s wonder-strike proved the difference maker on the night after Dejan Lovren opened the scoring to end Antonio Conte’s unbeaten start to the season.

Diego Costa pulled one back for the Blues but Liverpool held on for the three points to add Chelsea to their list of big-team scalps this season after wins against Arsenal and Leicester.

And speaking after the game, Klopp said Chelsea just simply couldn’t cope with the Reds’ intensity and hard running.

“We played football like hell, it was really nice to watch,' he said.

“You don't understand it, football like hell? Very lively, very flexible. We never thought about anything else other than playing our football.

“I told the lads before the game, everything can happen, there’s no guarantee of getting anything at Chelsea, but if we lose our way, the probability we get something, if we are really convinced about the kind of play it is bigger.”

The German was also full of praise for his defence for not allowing Chelsea to snatch a late equaliser, having conceded seven goals in four games prior to the game at Stamford Bridge.

“We started the game from the first minute, we had a few unbelievable moments. Anyone who has played Chelsea knows they are organised, especially under Conte.

“Everyone sees how often Chelsea score in the last seconds, but I can’t remember too many chances. The biggest was Divock Origi, so it could have even been 3-1 to us, but 2-1 I am completely fine with.”
