Mark Hughes could save David Bentley from his Tottenham nightmare with an £8m move in January.

A report in The Mirror today suggests that Hughes could be willing to bring the sometimes England winger to Manchester City in a deal which could see Martin Petrov move in the opposite direction.

Hughes was Bentley's manager at Blackburn before the 25-year-old was sold to Spurs in a £15m deal.

Since the switch to London, Bentley has failed to establish himself in the side and has been constantly linked with a transfer away from the club.

Manchester City are planning another assault on the transfer market when the winter window opens and Hughes believes Bentley can help his team push for a Champions League place.
