Stuart Pearce Non-League debut postponed because of most Non-League reason

Stuart Pearce's debut for 'England's worst team' Longford AFC has been postponed.

The reason is as Non-League as it gets... a waterlogged pitch.

Pearce, who played 78 times for England between 1987 and 1999, was set to make his debut in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two against Smiths Athletic at home ground Rockliffe Park.

Sadly we'll have to wait to see the Three Lions legend, 53, play his first game since 2002 another time.

No date has yet been set for his debut.

Longford have conceded more goals than any other team in the country, letting in an average of 10 goals per game, while losing 20 in a row.

Their worst defeat was a staggering 17-0.

Manager Nick Dawes had revealed that they had given Pearce time off to work on his fitness.

"We gave Stuart a week off to work on his fitness and so we are ready to throw him into the squad for Saturday’s game," he said.
