England striker Wayne Rooney has revealed he slept through Friday evening's World Cup draw.

The 24-year-old intended seeing the draw, which paired England with Algeria, Slovenia and the United States.

However, things did not go to plan for the 24-year-old, who needed friends to tell him who he would be facing in next summer's event in South Africa.

Rooney, who was in the capital preparing for Manchester United's Barclays Premier League match at West Ham, revealed: "I was asleep until 10pm.

"We got the train down to London and got to the hotel about 5pm.

"I lay down on my bed to watch TV. I fell asleep and didn't find out what the draw was until five hours later."

The striker became a father last month when wife Coleen gave birth to a son, Kai.
