Luis Suarez is a 'different man' at Liverpool this season, claims his Uruguay team-mate Edinson Cavani

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is a “different man” this season according to his Uruguayan team-mate Edinson Cavani, with the Paris Saint Germain forward insisting that he is cutting the shape of a man who is much happier than he was last season.

Suarez’s form for the Reds this season has been a key reason why the club are challenging for a top four finish (and possibly more) alongside his partner in crime Daniel Sturridge. Cavani, who is also a close friend of Suarez, believes that the reaction from the Liverpool fans in how they stood by him has made him feel loved at the club.

Interest in the 27-year-old rocketed last summer when both Real Madrid and Arsenal were interested in his services, with the Gunners seeing a £40m plus £1 offer furiously rejected by the Merseyside club even though Suarez himself was pushing for a move.

After a short time away from the first team squad, Suarez was reintegrated among the rest of his team-mates, and returned to action following the completion of his 10-match ban that ran into the beginning of this season for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.

Cavani feels that despite always loving Liverpool, Suarez is now benefitting from the club playing a higher standard of football which has made him more comfortable with life at Anfield.

“I speak with Luis most weeks and he is loving life at Liverpool,” admitted Cavani.

“When I speak with him now, it sounds like a different man to that of last season. You can hear it in his voice how happy he is compared to last season.

“He has always loved Liverpool, things have not always gone well for him in England, and he told me how humbled he was by the way the club and the fans stood by him.

“All he wanted was to be at a team which matched his ambition, where he could play Champions League, and where he can compete for major trophies. Now Liverpool are in that place he is happy to stay.”
