European Championship Qualifier: Belgium vs Andorra match preview
A look ahead to Friday’s European Championship Qualifying fixture at the King Baudouin Stadium
Eden Hazard and co will be anticipating a training-game atmosphere as they take on an Andorra side that have won just one competitive game in their history.
Hazard and his ‘golden generation’ showed that the hype they attracted had some justification in the World Cup with a credible run to the quarter-finals, and begin their campaign here in a group they will expect to progress from with ease.
Marc Wilmots’ squad boasts a huge amount of Premier League experience and has age on their side when looking forward to Euro 2016 – defender Jelle Van Damme is the only outfield player over 30.
Andorra got off to a dream start in their qualifying campaign when they went ahead against Wales, but two strikes from Gareth Bale denied them a famous victory. Andorra’s only competitive win came against Macedonia in a World Cup 2006 qualifier, but the team have had some success against Belgium before, when they managed to limit them to a 1-0 win back in October 2002.
