Wales striker Robert Earnshaw has launched a staunch defence of his country's lowly position in world football after claiming the Fifa rankings are a 'fake'.

Gary Speed's side lie joint 112th alongside European minnows the Faroe Islands after a dismal run of two victories from their last 10 internationals.

But Cardiff forward Earnshaw, who is expected to lead the line for Wales in Cardiff against Australia tomorrow, insists the rankings are not a true reflection.

Earnshaw, 30, said: "Where we are is not embarrassing because the world rankings are a fake. They do not tell the truth. They are exaggerated. But we take no notice of them."
