Coyle calls for quality

Bolton Wanderers 2 Sheffield United

After achieving his first win since taking charge by clinching a fifth-round berth in the FA Cup, Owen Coyle resumes his bid to keep Bolton in the Premier League when they host his old club, Burnley, tomorrow evening – and he has told his team he wants quality football regardless of their perilous league position.

Next to bottom, Wanderers are in familiar territory. Under past regimes, this was the cue to take to the trenches and unleash the heavy artillery. Coyle will not tolerate any reverting to type, as demonstrated on Saturday when he took his side to task for a one-dimensional first half before they scored two well-crafted goals in the second.

It is a change greeted by the squad with enthusiasm, as defender Gretar Steinsson explained after his goal had set up a win completed by Johan Elmander's scoring entry from the bench. Both times, Bolton's passing exposed weaknesses on the left of Championship side's defence.

"We have shown in the last couple of games that we can pass it around," Steinsson said. "People are sensing a change and every single player is enjoying it."
