Newcastle United go into their Capital One Cup match at Morecambe after a difficult start to their Premier League campaign. A 4-0 loss to Manchester City in their opening fixture and a poor 0-0 draw at home to West Ham will have done little to improve the confidence of The Magpies players and fans.

The potential strike threat of one of Newcastle’s best players in Yohann Cabaye could also have a negative effect on the dressing room. Newcastle will be desperate to improve on a record of no major honours since 1955, and could place a high emphasis on cup competitions this season.

Morecambe find themselves towards the bottom of League Two and will be aiming to bounce back in a competition in which they overcame League One side Wolves 1-0 in the last round. Morecambe have so far won one, drawn one and lost two of their opening fixtures. They will hope new signing and captain Mark Hughes can lead the team to victory whereas new signing Padraig Armond will be looking to score his first goal for the club should he feature after making just one appearance in League Two so far.

KICK-OFF: Wednesday, 7.45pm

PAST MEETINGS…

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in a competitive match.
