Gareth Bale’s agent says Real Madrid fans ‘should be ashamed of themselves’
The Welshman was jeered by supporters when being substituted against Barcelona
Gareth Bale‘s agent, Jonathan Barnett, has labelled the club's supporters as “nothing short of a disgrace” after the Welshman was jeered off during Real Madrid‘s defeat to Barcelona on Saturday.
Bale, who has fallen behind 18-year-old Vinicius Jr in the pecking order at the Bernabeu, has become the eye of Madrid fans’ frustrations, with the club five points adrift of cross-city rivals Atletico, while Barcelona are already 12 points clear t the top of La Liga.
Still the most expensive British player in history, Madrid are believed to be open to offers for the 29-year-old on, who signed an £18m-per-year contract extension in 2016.
“This generation of Real fans will be talking about Gareth’s goals for years to come,” Bale's agent told Sky Sports. “Frankly, they should be ashamed of themselves.”
“Gareth deserves the greatest of respect. The way Real fans have treated him is nothing short of a disgrace.”
Bale was accused of leaving the stadium after Madrid's clasico defeat before Santiago Solari had completed his press conference, however, those rumours were swiftly denied by the Welshman’s camp.
After the game, Spanish newspaper Marca said Bale’s attitude “bordered on professional negligence”, while teammate Thibaut Courtois claimed the Welshman didn’t come to team dinners and was nicknamed ‘the golfer’ due to his outsider position within the squad.
Madrid host Ajax on Tuesday and carry a slender 2-1 aggregate lead after a controversial first-leg where the Dutch side were denied by VAR.
