Pep Guardiola is expected to announce his departure from Bayern Munich today, opening the door to a move to the Premier League next summer.

With one game before the Bundesliga winds up for the winter break, Guardiola yesterday gave the strongest hint yet that he would not extend his contract in Munich.

At a press conference before the game with Hannover (which Bayern won 1-0), Guardiola said that he had spoken extensively to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the club’s chief executive. “Rummenigge knows everything,” he said, “On Sunday, we will know.”

Carlo Ancelotti is the favourite to succeed Guardiola with reports in the Spanish and German media saying that the Italian has a verbal agreement with Bayern.

Guardiola is expected to move to the Premier League. Manchester City remain favourites, while TZ , the Munich tabloid, suggested that Guardiola may go to Arsenal, with Bayern hiring Arsène Wenger.

Thomas Müller, the striker pursued by Chelsea and Manchester United, signed a new deal with Bayern on Friday, to run until 2021.
