Football: Sutton for sale at pounds 5m

NORWICH CITY have made their in-demand striker, Chris Sutton, available for transfer for a fee of more than pounds 5m - on condition that a deal is struck by Friday.

Robert Chase, Norwich's chairman, will today speak to all the clubs who have been chasing the converted defender, but he warned anyone seeking to buy Sutton, in a deal which would break the British transfer record, that they would have to put up the money this week. That will earn them the right to speak to the 21-year-old - and then a transfer will only go ahead if Sutton agrees terms and the whole fee is paid by Friday.

'Hopefully, this will all be sorted out by next Friday,' Sutton said. 'It will take a big weight off my shoulders if it is, and if no one comes in for me I will be happy to stay at Norwich.'

Celtic's hopes of appointing Tommy Burns as their new manager in succession to Lou Macari suffered a setback last night when Kilmarnock's chairman, Bob Fleeting, rejected the Glasgow club's request to speak to Burns, the player-manager at Rugby Park.

Len Walker, the former Aldershot manager, has been named as Ian Branfoot's assistant manager at Fulham. Branfoot took over at Craven Cottage last month after being sacked by Southampton last season.
